CHRISTMAS LESSONS FROM JOSEPH AND MARY 1: NO EXCUSE FOR UNGODLINESS!

In this century, whenever it is mentioned that a lady of marriageable age is a virgin, it strikes a different chord with many people especially when such lady is beautiful with every feature of maturity intact. This is partly because we live in a world where chastity and decent living is fast fading out. The same people who have put forth excuses that we cannot compare the time of Mary to the present time because the level of decadence at their time is not as alarming as we now have have forgotten that Rahab was a prostitute many centuries before Mary was born, Samson slept with prostitute and Judah slept with his daughter-in-law who disguised as prostitute; even in the time of Christ, a woman was caught in adultery among hundreds of examples. Bad people have always existed and so are the good ones but there is never a time to be more decent and godly than now when the light of gospel has flooded our hearts than ever.

I know people who believe honestly that a young man must do either of fornication, smoking and abuse of drugs, alcoholism, gambling or be addicted to watching sport but we know that is not true. Sadly, many young men have taken seriously this erroneous belief and have patterned their lives after them. By the grace of God, I am not a victim of any of those vices and I know a lot of other young men who are not bound by such standard.

Just like Mary could have used any of the available one million and one excuse to not be a virgin, so can we all generate tenable excuses for living in one bondage of sin or another but she chose the best option and declared like Apostle Paul that she “can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”. Your excuses for not having given your life to Christ is unacceptable and cannot be justified. The book of Micah 6vs8 says that “He has shown you, O man, what is good and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?”. This life of sin that you are living is not the best that there is, do not allow negative influences from environment and corrupted human philosophies to send you to hell fire. Not everybody is a thief, a fornicator, a gossip-monger, a bribe -taker, a drunkard or hypocrite. There are so many holy, righteous, just and godly ones; they are the team you should join.
