CHRISTMAS LESSONS FROM SIMEON AND ANNA 2: THE WORD IS EVER TRUE, DON’T LIMIT GOD

Have you met people who sleeps with their Bible kept under their pillow to prevent evil spirits from oppressing them in their sleep? Some will even go as far as reading it into their water before they bathe in the bathroom so that God’s presence will follow them wherever they go but their lives on closer check usually don’t appear to have the kind of victory they desire because reading the word is not enough to give victory.

The man called Simeon in our meditation this week has lived considerably up to ripe old age serving God and to many people around him, it appears his days should be over but for Simeon, he would not die until the promise of God that he will see the saviour has come to pass and so it was.

Yes the word of God is alive and powerful, it is potent but it does not work unless it has been mixed with faith in the heart of the reader or hearer.

Somebody once told me the story of a politician’s wife who gave testimony in church that God delivered her husband from being hit by bullet when hoodlums shot directly at him at a campaign rally. Rather than people rejoicing with her, they began to doubt that her husband was saved by God but through other fetish means that politicians are known for.

So, you realise that the same people who believed that God killed big Goliath with a sling of stone from little David, who delivered Daniel from lion’s den and the three Hebrews from the fiery furnace is incapable of protecting a man from bullet! This is the typical weak Christianity seen in our churches today.

All of those people whose beliefs in God yielded positive results in the bible were humans like us who went about their lives like we do. In fact we have more advantage than them because we now have their records of exploits to read from which they do not have in their time, yet we appear to just have forms of godliness while denying the power. This is why despite many positive confessions, vigils and fastings results are not forthcoming.

The book of Hebrews 11:6 says that “without faith it is impossible to please Him(God): for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. Examples abound of people who have trusted Him in the past and have good testimonies to share but such will not be possible for you if you continue to rationalise your impossibilities and magnify your problems.

As you go out today, let me tell you confidently that God is interested in bringing a permanent end to that problem, the question is do you trust and have faith in Him enough? You should know that whatever limit you put God in your mind is where His power ends. If you only think he can heal but can’t provide for you, you will not be sick but be in lack. If see him only as the saviour and not the protector, He will save you from eternal damnation but can allow you to be killed by evil forces of darkness. God does not force Himself on anyone, He limits Himself only to the extent He is allowed.

The words of God work all the time, let your faith be activated to believe that He can do all things and you will start seeing results in all aspects of your life
